By Adamu Muhammad

‎The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress NDC, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have pledged to make the Calabar Port fully operational and restore Cross River State’s status as a top tourism destination if elected in 2027.
‎
‎The promises were made on Wednesday during a town hall meeting in Calabar, where the candidates engaged directly with residents and party supporters.
‎
‎Prior to the meeting, Obi and Kwankwaso visited the palace of the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, to inform him of their visit. The traditional ruler offered prayers and blessings for their campaign.
‎
‎During the interactive session, residents raised concerns about the economy, security, the Calabar Port, and the revival of the state’s tourism sector.
‎
‎Addressing the crowd, Obi said his administration will prioritize education, healthcare, and poverty reduction. He assured the people that the Calabar Port, alongside other ports in the Niger Delta, will be fully operational to boost economic activities.
‎
‎On tourism, Obi expressed concern that Calabar and Obudu had lost their glory due to poor governance. He promised to restore the state’s tourism value, adding that when elected, he will personally spend his holidays at these destinations to promote them.
‎
‎Obi also urged supporters to be prepared to defend their votes on Election Day. He thanked the people of Cross River State for their hospitality.
