‎Alhaji Abba Yusuf: 81 Years of Service in Government, Labour and Tradition

By Adamu Muhammad

Alhaji Abba Yusuf, the Secretary of the Kano Emirate Council and District Head of Dawakin Kudu, Danmakwayon Kano, has spent 81 years serving people and institutions. His journey cuts across three major areas of public life: local government administration, trade union leadership, and traditional service.

‎He started in local government administration, the level of government closest to the people. It is where policies meet everyday needs and where governance is measured by what people actually feel. Working there taught him patience, respect for procedures, and a real understanding of the problems ordinary citizens face.

‎He later moved into the trade union movement, where he learned to speak for workers and defend their welfare. Leading a union is not easy. It takes patience, courage, and the ability to negotiate and manage disagreements. These are skills he carried with him into other roles.

‎His move to the Kano Emirate Council opened another chapter. As Secretary of the Council, he connects decisions with their implementation, a job that requires organisational ability, good communication, and respect for tradition. His role as District Head of Dawakin Kudu, with the title Danmakwayon Kano, adds more responsibility. Traditional leaders are expected to uphold dignity, respect local customs, and help keep the peace.

‎At 81, Alhaji Abba Yusuf carries decades of experience. His life shows that whether in local government, trade unions, or traditional leadership, the same values matter: listening, consulting, and understanding people. On this occasion, we congratulate him and pray that Almighty Allah grants him good health, peace of mind, and renewed strength.
