By Adamu Muhammad

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has taken its anti-drug message to schools and communities across Kano State, carrying out about 420 sensitisation programmes in nine months.

‎The Command disclosed this in a press release signed by its Media and Advocacy Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari.

‎‎According to the release, the programmes were school and community based. They were designed to educate young people and members of the public on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of prevention.

‎‎The sensitisation formed part of the Command’s work between January and September 2026. The Command explained that addressing drug related challenges requires more than enforcement. It also needs sustained efforts to prevent substance abuse and support recovery.

‎‎Beyond the sensitisation programmes, the Command’s Counseling, Treatment and Rehabilitation Unit recorded approximately 1,700 interventions to support individuals affected by substance abuse.

‎The State Commander, CN DY Lawal, said community participation and public awareness remain essential to achieving sustainable progress. He called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse.

‎‎He also thanked the NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), for his leadership. He appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, stakeholders, community members, and the media for their cooperation.

‎The Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening preventive education and supporting treatment and rehabilitation initiatives to protect public health and enhance community safety across Kano State.
