The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has banned its personnel from escorting politicians or leading political convoys during the 2027 election campaigns.
The Zonal Commanding Officer for Zone RS6, ACM Abimbola Owolabi, gave the directive on Wednesday during her first official visit to the Cross River State Command in Calabar.
Owolabi warned that official patrol vehicles and sirens must not be used for political events, weddings, or funeral processions. She ordered officers assigned to campaign venues to focus strictly on managing traffic to prevent congestion and road crashes.
She stressed that misconduct by patrol operators damages public trust in the agency. She warned against extortion, corruption, and other unprofessional acts, urging the personnel to remain highly accountable in all their operations.
The Zonal Commander also advised officers to prioritize their personal safety during enforcement. She warned them to avoid unnecessary confrontations with motorists that could lead to assaults, injuries, or damage to their uniforms.
Owolabi called for stronger partnerships with private towing operators to ensure broken down vehicles are quickly removed from highways. She emphasized the need for faster emergency responses, effective rescue operations, and increased patrols to reduce road accidents.
She advised the officers to take care of their health by using the National Health Insurance Scheme, noting that good health is key to effective service delivery.
Owolabi appealed to the Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association ROSOWA to support their husbands in their duties to help save lives.
