Two suspected bandits have been killed and a third escaped with injuries after local hunters, known as Yan Bula, ambushed them in Falgore Forest, Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Police Command said the incident happened on Saturday, October 17, 2026. It came shortly after the suspects collected a N10 million ransom for the release of a kidnapped victim, Kabiru Aliyu, 45, of Falgore Village.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police said the victim was kidnapped on September 11, 2026, and spent days in captivity before his release.
According to the statement, three suspected bandits came out of the forest around midnight to collect the ransom. The suspects were believed to be from Falgore Forest and linked to Maigwanda Village in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Two of the suspects were killed during the operation, while the third escaped with injuries. The entire N10 million ransom was recovered intact.
Preliminary investigations identified one of the dead suspects as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle rider from Maigwanda Village in Kubau LGA, Kaduna State.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the local hunters for supporting the police-led Operation Kukan Kura against kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes in the state.
He directed the Area Commander, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical teams in the area to intensify the search for the fleeing suspect and recover any weapons used by the group.
The victim was released unharmed after the money was collected. However, the suspects were ambushed by the hunters while returning to their hideout in the forest.
The police said the rescued victim has been debriefed, medically examined, and reunited with his family.
The Command assured its commitment to protecting lives and property. It urged the public to keep providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
