‎2027 Elections: INEC Records Over 103 Million Voters

By Adamu Muhammad

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has announced that Nigeria’s National Register of Voters has surpassed 103 million ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this in Abuja while hosting an ECOWAS Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission led by former Sierra Leone Vice-President, Victor Bockarie Foh.

‎Prof. Amupitan described the 2027 elections as a major milestone for Nigeria’s democracy. Over 103 million registered voters, the successful conduct of the polls will have a big impact on democratic stability across West Africa.

‎‎The INEC Chairman revealed that the Commission has already completed nine out of 14 major steps in its timetable. This includes finishing three phases of the Continuous Voter Registration and displaying the preliminary voter register nationwide.

‎To handle the massive voter population, Amupitan said INEC will deploy staff and technology across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, 774 Local Government Areas, and exactly 176,846 polling units.

‎‎He assured that the Commission will use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for fingerprint and facial verification, along with electronic systems to manage and verify results.

‎He reaffirmed INEC neutrality, stating that the Commission has no candidate and its only allegiance is to the law and the will of the Nigerian people.
